A Custom, EHR-Integrated Mobile App for a Children’s Hospital
Goals
Children’s Wisconsin, a nationally ranked pediatric acute care children’s hospital, was unsatisfied with their out-of-the-box Epic MyChart mobile application.
The CW team wanted to create a branded, EHR-integrated mobile app in order to drive brand loyalty and deliver a more unified experience. Our goal was to build a one-of-a-kind application that would do just this by offering a one-stop-shop experience with symptom checking services, video visits, appointment scheduling, and more.
Mobile App Research
Children’s Wisconsin’s UX design team had previously completed extensive research (focus groups, user testing, creation of prototypes, and more) prior to our involvement.
We knew that their previous mobile app had a high adoption rate and patients were most heavily engaging with the patient portal. Therefore, an essential goal was to create a new app that would keep patients in the branded CW app and usher them to use helpful tools such as symptom checking, virtual visits, and more in order to boost brand loyalty.

Our design team leveraged CW’s high-fidelity prototypes and user flows to create a mobile app focused on enabling communication and providing access to parents.

- Symptom check to find the right place for care.
- Reserve a spot at any of CW’s urgent care locations.
- Video visit with a physician.
